Product update

Read-only MCP access comes to ADG Vantage.

Since September 15, Vantage customers can connect AI assistants to their ERP data through the Model Context Protocol (MCP). MCP is an open standard, supported by Claude, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and a growing list of other AI clients, that gives an assistant a structured way to work with outside systems. Vantage now includes an MCP server, so the assistant your staff already use can answer questions from live Vantage data. MCP access is included with Vantage at no additional cost.

What staff can do with it

The questions that used to mean running a report, exporting to Excel, and filtering by hand can now be asked directly:

  • "Which vendors have we paid more than $25,000 this fiscal year?"
  • "How many utility accounts are more than 60 days past due?"
  • "Which work orders are still open, by department?"

The assistant looks up which tables it can see, reads their structure, queries the rows it needs, and answers in plain language. It can join related tables, filter, sort, and page through larger result sets.

Read-only, scoped, and audited

Public-sector data comes with rules, so access is deliberately narrow:

  • Read-only. The assistant can describe tables, query rows, and fetch individual records. Changes to data stay in Vantage, under each user's normal permissions.
  • Scoped by key. An administrator issues an AI-enabled API key and grants it specific modules and tables. Anything outside those grants is invisible to the assistant.
  • Audited. Every call an assistant makes is logged against its key.
  • Rate-limited. An optional hourly limit per key keeps usage predictable.

Vantage doesn't send data to AI providers on its own. It answers requests from the assistant you connect, through the secured Vantage REST API, so your choice of assistant decides where the data goes. Use a cloud assistant like Claude, ChatGPT, or Copilot, or a model hosted on your own servers to keep data inside your network.

How to turn it on

  1. Update to a current Vantage release. On-prem sites also need the Vantage REST API enabled on the web server.
  2. In Security, open Configure REST API Users, create a key, check AI Enabled, and grant the modules and tables it should read.
  3. Add your server's /api/mcp address and the key to your AI client.

Claude Desktop and Claude Code connect directly. ChatGPT custom connectors and Copilot's MCP-capable agent modes need a little extra authentication setup. Step-by-step guides and a video walkthrough are available to customers in the ADG Support Portal.

For an overview of how it works, the governance model, and answers to common questions, see AI & MCP in ADG Vantage. If you're connecting other systems rather than an assistant, the Vantage REST API uses the same keys and permissions.

Bring the questions your team asks every week, and we'll show how an AI assistant answers them from Vantage.
